A Rockview state prison inmate was charged with arson after a cell fire in June.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Pennsylvania State Police, on June 20, corrections officers responded to smoke coming from a cell occupied by Kevin Coit, 26. The entire wing of the treatment unit was evacuated, and all officers and inmates were medically cleared.
An investigation into the fire revealed two pieces of metal inserted into an outlet, the complaint said — a common practice to create a fire. The damage to the cell totaled $3,500.
Coit is charged with a felony count of arson, as well as misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and criminal mischief, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 3.
