The State College Area school board voted on Monday to approve renovations to the Park Forest Middle School kitchen.
The contract to replace the kitchen’s walk-in cooler and repair the exhaust system was awarded to TMG Builders, of Bellefonte, and will cost the district about $130,000.
The district originally planned on repairing the cooler, but after it was closely examined, the cooler’s age and condition required the unit to be replaced, according to Director of Physical Plant Ed Poprik.
Poprik said he estimated the repair to cost about $40,000, and after it was determined the cooler needed to be replaced, the district solicited bids for the project.

Funding for the work fits within the district’s five-year capital plan budget, according to district spokesman Chris Rosenblum.
Work is scheduled to begin after the school years ends, and is expected to be finished by the end of summer break.
