The Philipsburg-Osceola Area school board appointed a new superintendent during its Wednesday night voting meeting.

The board unanimously appointed Daniel Potutschnig to the superintendent position. Potutschnig, who is the current superintendent of the Millersburg Area School District, will start after being released from his current role, no later than Feb. 6, 2024. His contract with P-O will extend until June 30, 2027. The salary for the position was not included on the meeting’s agenda.

He served as superintendent for the Millersburg Area School District since July 2022. Prior to becoming superintendent, he was administrative director for Mifflin County’s Academy of Science and Technology for 11 years.

Potutschnig was one of nine candidates interviewed for the position, said board member Todd Jeffries, who added that Potutschnig’s background as a former machinist and director of a CTE program stood out to the board.

He takes over from Gregg Paladina, who served as P-O’s superintendent since 2013. He announced his resignation in July after accepting a superintendent position at New Castle Area School District. Robert Rocco has been serving as interim superintendent since early last month.
