Bellefonte Area is looking for its next superintendent. Here’s how you can weigh in
Bellefonte Area School District is asking students, staff and community members to give feedback during the search for a new superintendent.
The search started this fall after superintendent Tammie Burnaford announced in October that she would not renew her contract with the district when it expires in June. Burnaford was hired as superintendent in 2020 and has been with the district for two decades.
At a Nov. 2 meeting, the board approved a $19,000 contract with Di Rocco Education Consulting to assist in the search. In one of the first steps of the process, the firm and the board developed three surveys to help focus the search. One survey is for parents of BASD students, one for faculty and one for community members without students enrolled in the district.
All surveys will be open until Jan. 5 and can be found on the district’s website.
In an email to the CDT, board president Jon Guizar said this is the first chance for community feedback on the search, but more opportunities will follow.
“We want to understand what is important to each of those groups individually,” Guizar wrote. “Feedback from that survey will be used to develop a leadership profile that will then be used to advertise the position.”
