A seat is open on the Bellefonte Area school board.
At a meeting Tuesday night, Chip Aikens announced his resignation, citing he didn’t think he could put his all into the position anymore.
With “regret,” according to board president Rodney Musser, the board unanimously approved the move.
Aikens suggested his seat be filled by former board member Jon Guizar, who filled a vacant seat in March, but did not run for reelection in November, according to information from the Centre County Office of Elections and Voter Registration.
However, by state law, a board member cannot appoint another person to his or her seat.
The vacancy is in the hands of the board who will review applications, and select an individual after an interview and voting process.
Aikens was appointed to the board in 2012.
