Families of young children can be prepared to get schooled on Saturday.

There will be a one-stop shop at Mount Nittany Middle School during the ninth annual Preschool Fair for families to check out local preschools.

“Basically we know looking into preschools for your child can be overwhelming, and with the diverse option of schools in this area, we want to simplify the process so families can come out to one location and learn what they need to,” said fair organizer Melissa MacNeely.

The event is sponsored by Mothers and More of State College in partnership with the State College Area School District.

About 15 preschools will be showcased, along with other extracurricular organizations.

MacNeely said there will be soccer and yoga demonstrations for children to participate in, while their parents or guardians learn about preschools.

“It’s a whole family affair, where the parents can really focus on learning more about the preschools while their children can do hands-on activities,” she said.

Each year, the event attracts about 50 to 100 families, MacNeely said.

“It’s at the perfect time because a lot of preschools start their enrollment process in February and March, and it gives parents time to see what preschool is the best fit,” MacNeely said.

The Preschool Fair was started about nine years ago after members in the Mothers and More State College chapter felt the need for this event in the community.

“The catalyst was that a bunch of us were sitting down and some people felt overwhelmed by visiting preschools,” MacNeely said. “It can be a very time-consuming process. But we offer the one-stop shop to get a little bit of everything they need.”

Mothers and More is a volunteer-driven philanthropic organization that promotes giving back to the community. It also encourages networking and socializing with other area moms.
