Penn State’s World Campus ranked in top 10 best programs by US News and World Report
Penn State World Campus’s online bachelor’s and master’s programs ranked in the top 10 of U.S. News and World Report’s annual best online program rankings.
While Penn State made gains in its master’s of education, information technology and business administration online programs, it fell in its general bachelor’s program and master’s of engineering program and tied its non-MBA business program ranking from last year.
Penn State’s World Campus did not rank for online master’s in criminal justice or nursing programs.
This year, Penn State landed at No. 6 for online MBA programs with a score of 90, edging up from No. 9 last year with a score of 88. Indiana University in Bloomington tied with University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill for No. 1 MBA programs.
For Penn State’s online master’s in IT program, it inched up from No. 7 last year, scoring 73, to No. 6 this year, with a score of 79. University of Southern California’s master’s in IT program ranked No. 1.
Penn State’s online master’s in education program also moved up in the rankings, from No. 9 last year to No. 7 this year. Clemson University maintained its No. 1 master’s in education program.
But Penn State couldn’t hold onto its top 5 status for its online bachelor’s program or master’s of engineering program. It dropped from a three-way tie at No. 5 last year with University of Florida and University of Illinois-Chicago to a three-way tie at No. 8 this year with Loyola University of Chicago and UNC-Wilmington. Ohio State University was the top online bachelor’s program.
Penn State’s online master’s in engineering program dropped from No. 4 last year to No. 6 this year. Columbia University in New York remained the No. 1 online master’s in engineering program, but tied with University of California-Los Angeles.
But Penn State’s online master’s program in business (non-MBA) held its ranking at No. 8 this year. University of Southern California ranked No. 1.
For each program, U.S. News and World Report calculated the rankings differently. The organization assessed bachelor’s programs based on engagement, services and technologies offered, faculty credentials and training and expert opinion. Master’s programs were evaluated using this criteria, plus student excellence, and each category was weighted differently to come up with the score.
