University Park Airport to receive $2.3 million in relief funds from CARES Act
University Park Airport is one of 63 Pennsylvania airports to receive a portion of $239 million in federal funding to support operations and replace lost revenue.
United States Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao announced Tuesday that the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration will provide aid to help respond to COVID-19. The money was a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, which includes $10 billion in funding for all eligible airports in the United States.
University Park Airport will receive $2,337,489 in funding.
“With a steep decline in travel and revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our airports need help to continue operations and save employees’ jobs,” U.S. Sen. Bob Casey said in a release. “I was proud to advocate for our Commonwealth’s airports to receive funding from the CARES Act, and I am pleased that the FAA plans to implement a streamlined grant process to expedite this funding for critical airport needs.”
The funds are available for airport capital expenditures, airport operating expenses, including payroll and utilities, and airport debt payments.
“This $10 billion in emergency resources will help fund the continued operations of our nation’s airports during this crisis and save workers’ jobs,” Chao said.
