Penn State issues timely warning on another sexual assault in East Halls
For the second time since move-in week, a sexual assault was reported to have occurred in Penn State’s East Halls, where freshmen normally reside, according to a timely warning notification issued by the university Friday evening.
According to the report, the forcible sex offense occurred sometime between 4 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. Aug. 27. It was reported to University Police at 6:10 p.m. Friday.
The sexual assault involved a man known to the alleged victim.
According to the timely warning, it can be “assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the university community.”
It is the second East Halls sexual assault reported since Aug. 22, when university police were told a forcible sex offense occurred around 3 a.m. in the residence complex.
According to a spokesperson, there are no known connections between the two incidents. The investigations are both ongoing.
It is the 11th timely warning by Penn State so far this calendar year. Of those, 10 involved forcible sex offenses and one involved a burglary.
University Park provides several resources for sexual assault victims, including medical assistance and emotional support, which can be found on the Title IX page at titleix.psu.edu/resources-penn-state-university-park and also as outlined elsewhere on the university’s website.
