Penn State World Campus earns high marks from Military Times in ‘Best for Vets’ rankings
Penn State World Campus remains one of the nation’s top online schools for veterans, based on rankings recently released by the Military Times.
The online campus for Penn State was ranked No. 5 when it came to primarily online education for veterans, placing it behind top-ranked University of Maryland Global Campus. Among more than 300 private and public institutions, both online and traditional, Penn State World Campus came in at No. 40 overall for veterans.
It also ranked No. 35 among public schools for veterans.
The Military Times, an independent media outlet that covers all branches of the U.S. military, developed the rankings after posing 70 questions to hundreds of schools and receiving voluntary responses. Schools were ranked on a points/percentage-based system that included veteran success (28.26%), resources for veterans (22.99%), financial aid for veterans (22.22%), admissions/registration policies (14.19%), employees (8.02%) and the school (4.32%).
Penn State World Campus’ best ranking (No. 5) came among institutions that were primarily online. The Military Times ranked 35 such schools, with the World Campus finishing behind the University of Maryland Global Campus, Liberty University, Saint Leo University and Arizona State University Digital Immersion.
The Military Times’ “Best for Vets: Colleges” list isn’t the only ranking to rate the World Campus highly either.
In January, U.S. News and World Report’s annual “Best Online Programs” rankings consistently listed Penn State World Campus among the friendliest for veterans. It tied for No. 11 nationally among online bachelor’s programs for veterans and it earned high marks in several programs, such as No. 3 when it came to master’s degrees in both engineering and education, respectively.
According to the university, the World Campus served more than 2,600 military-affiliated students last fall.
