Penn State parking deck to partially reopen Monday after closure caused by sinkhole
After being closed since Wednesday due to a sinkhole, Penn State’s Eisenhower Parking Deck will partially reopen on Monday.
The north section of the deck and the Yellow F surface lot will remain closed until further notice, according to a Friday update from the university. Overflow parking for Yellow F permit holders will be available at all sections of Yellow H, all Orange lots and the Commuter lots (Stadium West, Jordan East, Porter North, Porter South).
Eisenhower Road will also remain closed between the deck entrance and exit.
The parking deck was evacuated Wednesday afternoon due to hazardous conditions from a sinkhole. Vehicles were initially not permitted to be removed from the garage until an evaluation took place, but permit holders were later allowed to remove vehicles with assistance from police and transportation services staff.
With the portion of Eisenhower Road still closed Monday — which is the first day of classes for the fall semester — vehicles will enter the deck from the west end of Eisenhower Road via Shortlidge Road. All vehicles exiting the deck will travel east to Bigler Road.
Entry to and exit from the Yellow S parking lots will be available from the west end of Eisenhower Road via Shortlidge Road.
The Transportation Services Office, which is located in the Eisenhower deck, is set to reopen at 7:30 a.m. Monday, per the university release. University Park police, also stationed in Eisenhower, announced Thursday it had temporarily relocated to Gate B at Beaver Stadium. Police can be reached at 814-863-1111.
Eisenhower deck, primarily used by staff and faculty, was not slated to be used by students during move-in weekend. But the closure caused some shuffling because a number of permit holders at other University Park lots and garages had been temporarily relocated to Eisenhower.
