Pop rock band Walk the Moon, known for hit songs like “Shut Up and Dance,” took the Penn State Thon stage Friday night at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Lead singer Nicholas Petricca hit the stage with an a cappella rendition of Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me” while more than 700 students — who began their 46 hours of standing at 6 p.m. Friday — and a stadium full of spectators, sang and clapped along.

The Ohio-based American Music Award winning pop rock band has released eight albums and an EP since coming together in 2006.

Petricca was joined by the band’s drummer and two bass players, who danced across the stage as they performed their hits including “Anna Sun,” along with several cover songs, under the Bryce Jordan Center’s flashing lights. The band also invited the audience members to get in on the action.

Petricca thanked the audience for supporting the cause.

“The power that we have when we come together with the shared intention to do something good in the world — I think it’s f------ amazing.”
