Former Penn State defensive end running for board of trustees. ‘Too special to pass up’
A former Penn State defensive end announced his candidacy for the Penn State board of trustees Monday.
Carl Nassib, a 2015 graduate who played football for Penn State, announced on Instagram that he’s running for an alumni-elected trustee seat.
“Hey Penn State family! I am officially running for a seat on the PSU Board of Trustees. I was recently asked to join and it was too special to pass up,” Nassib wrote on Instagram. He asked his Penn State alum followers to nominate him to the board. Alumni can nominate up to three candidates, according to the nomination page.
After Penn State, Nassib played seven seasons in the National Football League before retiring in 2023. In 2021 he became the first openly gay active player in the league.
He finished his career with 128 solo tackles and 25.5 sacks after playing for the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas Raiders across his seven years. He accumulated 17.5 sacks in his time as a Nittany Lion, including a breakout 2015 campaign when he registered 15.5 of them. Nassib was originally a third round pick by the Browns in 2016.
The nomination phase continues until 5 p.m. Feb. 25. Elections of trustees by Penn State alumni begins at 9 a.m. April 10 and runs through 9 a.m. May 2.
