Want to ice skate in Beaver Stadium? Penn State sets public sessions before hockey games
Penn State football’s Beaver Stadium has been transformed into a hockey rink for the upcoming outdoor hockey games and the university is giving the public the opportunity to skate on it as well.
Beaver Stadium will be open for four different sessions of public ice skating next week, the university announced Friday. Each slot available is about an hour long for $30/person, which includes skate rentals.
The times available are 12:30-1:20 p.m. Jan. 28, 7:45-8:45 p.m. Jan. 30, 8:15 p.m.-9:15 p.m. Jan. 31, and 5:45-6:45 p.m. Feb. 1. Each time has a capacity limit, and advanced registration is required. Registration can be done online at pegula.finnlyconnect.com/registration/activityitem/24017.
Skaters can enter the stadium through the south tunnel, located off of Curtin Road between Gates A and B. Paid parking is available in the commuter lots through the Honk app.
“Please dress warm as you will be skating outdoors!” the registration site states.
The men’s hockey team will compete in an outdoor hockey game against Michigan State at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31. The women’s varsity team will also play Jan. 30, and plans have been made on other days to include other hockey-playing members of the community, such as the State College Youth Ice Hockey Association’s Icers teams and Penn State’s club hockey team.
This is the first time Beaver Stadium will be used for an outdoor hockey game. Previously, logistical and facility constraints largely prevented an outdoor hockey game at Beaver Stadium from happening. But with the winterization of the stadium ahead of the 2024 season’s home College Football Playoff game, a lot of those constraints were eliminated.
