As summer temperatures rise in State College, Penn State is celebrating a different kind of degree. The university is expected to award its one millionth degree in August and is asking the public to choose a commemorative ice cream flavor for the occasion.

Penn State is expected to hit the one millionth degree milestone during summer commencement ceremonies in August, according to a Wednesday news release. The new graduates will join an alumni network with an alumni association that’s considered the largest dues-paying membership organization of its kind worldwide, with nearly 173,000 members, according to its website.

Penn State’s Berkey Creamery announced it will make available a limited-time ice cream flavor that receives the most votes by the “Penn State community, alumni and friends” to celebrate the milestone. The public is encouraged to vote on five finalists: One Milla Vanilla Bean, One Million Scholars Chip, Million Strong Strawberry, Millionth Degree Mint Nittany and One Mil Grilled Stickies.

Participants can vote using this link provided by the university. Voting began Wednesday and continues through July 10.

The winning flavor name will be announced during the August commencement ceremonies and the ice cream will be available at the Berkey Creamery for a limited time beginning in the fall semester.
