Timing often is everything, and the State College Area school board members are finding it's not on their side.
They pushed off decisions to make them in June, so we got a new superintendent at a surprising salary, layoffs and the Memorial Field next step all at once.
I'm sure they heard what I heard, which is a constant buzz over the new super's rate if pay. Hempfield is a nice affluent school district in Lancaster County, so it didn't surprise me.
But as early as 6:45 a.m. it was the talk in the gym, and of course it continued online here all day. Too bad readers never focused on his educational qualifications, but that will come later.
So we have it, one after the other, a case of timing not in their favor.
It won't get much better, either. The board's next act will be to raise taxes.
