Watch helicopter rescue hiker who fell off California cliff, got wedged between rocks

Crews hoisted a stuck hiker who was wedged between two rocks after falling off a cliff, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man was hiking near Stinson Beach when he fell to the bottom of a cliff Wednesday and got stuck between rocks, officials said. California Highway Patrol did not say how the hiker fell or got stuck.

Officials from California Highway Patrol, Stinson Beach Fire, Marin County Fire and Stinson Beach Lifeguards responded to the hiker’s fall and worked quickly to rescue the hiker, according to CHP.

A 911 caller said the 23-year-old hiker was unconscious after falling, according to The Mercury News. The hiker was conscious at the time of rescue, officials said in the video.

“CHP H-32 lowered a CHP Flight Officer/Paramedic to the scene and with the assistance of the life guards and fire fighters, the patient was able to extricate from the rocks he was wedged in,” California Highway Patrol said on Facebook.

He was critically injured and taken to John Muir Medical Center, CHP said. The hiker is in stable condition, according to The Mercury News.
