Dancer twirls to see her partner down on one knee in surprise proposal, NC video shows
A dancer twirled around to see her partner making an unexpected move during their North Carolina performance, video shows.
Her dance partner, Anthony Chen, stopped their routine to get down on one knee in a surprise marriage proposal, according to footage he posted to Facebook on Jan. 1.
When she realizes what’s happening, the woman, Irina Amzashvili, can be seen holding her hand in front of her mouth, smiling and leaning in for an embrace as onlookers cheer. She said “yes,” according to Chen.
“Irina knew I would propose to her *someday,*” he wrote in his Facebook post. “We talked about it and looked at rings together months prior, but she didn’t know when or how it was going to happen.”
Chen said the big surprise unfolded Dec. 29 at Lindy Focus, an annual swing music event based in the mountain tourist destination of Asheville.
In the video of the special performance, the dancers can be seen holding hands and spinning to the song “As Long As I Live” by Catherine Russell. About two minutes into the clip, Amzashvili is turned away when her partner reaches into his pocket to grab a box and drops to one knee.
Less than a week after he shared the video on social media, it has garnered more than 17,000 views and hundreds of comments.
“I smiled through every second of this,” one person wrote on Chen’s post. “What a great memory to have for the rest of your lives!! Congratulations to you both!”
Another person commented: “A routine that ended with a lil’ extra, extra improv!”
It turns out, the now-engaged couple met in 2013 at a dancing competition that pairs people together at random. The two started dating four years later, Chen told the Storyful video platform website.
