A dog in Pennsylvania became his own hero when he leapt out of a burning home to safety.

On April 27, fire officials were sent to a home in Berks County after it caught fire, a news release from Fleetwood Fire Company said.

Parents and their children who live at the house were not home when the blaze began, NBC4 reported, and two dogs and two cats were left inside, all of which made it out alive.

One dog was rescued from the front door, and a cat was found unharmed on the lower level. The other dog — Charlie — had to plan his escape.

A video posted to YouTube by an onlooker shows Charlie whining from the second story as flames engulfed the home.

Charlie then took a brave leap of faith and hurled himself out of the window to safety. The dog’s body was covered in soot from the massive fire that destroyed the home.

According to officials, Charlie “self-rescued” himself.

After 30 minutes, the fire was put under control and turned over to the owners, officials said in the release.

Fleetwood is about 60 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
