Loud whimpering from burning shed leads South Carolina rescuers to 8 trapped puppies
Firefighters were beating back flames in the backyard of a South Carolina home when they heard whimpering from a burning storage shed.
It was loud and the Colleton County Fire-Rescue team quickly sifted through the debris to find eight puppies under the shed, the June 21 release said.
The Jacksonboro homeowner told the fire department they had no idea the pups were there, according to the release.
Firefighters had arrived at the scene to handle an “out of control yard fire,” the release said. The blaze started as a trash fire and quickly moved to the wooden storage building, which was destroyed, along with everything inside.
Luckily, the firefighters said, the puppies made it out largely unharmed.
Once rescuers pulled out seven puppies, they started treating them for smoke inhalation and revive them, the release said. An eighth puppy was found after the flames were put out, and was also resuscitated.
None of the pups appeared to have been burned, officials said, and they were transported to Colleton County Animal Services.
Jacksonboro is about 33 miles west of Charleston.
