Scattered human remains, including a skull found by a hunter, have been identified as a missing Rainbow Family camper, Colorado officials told news outlets.

Jacob Michael Cyr, 31, was reported missing Aug. 8 after he failed to return home to Treynor, Iowa, the Routt County Sheriff’s Department told The Denver Post. His remains were identified Wednesday, Nov. 2, according to the news outlet.

Cyr had attended a Colorado gathering of the Rainbow Family of Living Light, described by the U.S. Forest Service as “a loose-knit group of people” from around the world who convene annually at a national forest, McClatchy News reported.

The 50th annual gathering in the Routt National Forest over the summer was expected to draw up to 10,000 people, rangers said.

A hunter found a human skull in the Adams Park area of Routt County on Sept. 4, McClatchy News reported. Search teams with dogs found more remains about a mile away.

The county coroner’s office used dental records to identify the remains as Cyr, KCNC reported.

Officials suspect animals scattered Cyr’s remains after his death, The Steamboat Pilot reported. He was last seen June 18 by a fellow camper who saw him wander into the woods.
