Snowmobile trailer found abandoned in Alaska wilderness, cops say. Two still missing

Update: The two missing snowmobilers were rescued Nov. 16 by civilian pilots assisting in the search, troopers reported.

Two people who vanished on a snowmobile trip to check fishing nets near Selawik remain missing, Alaska State Troopers report.

Timothy Snyder, 41, and Jane Kaiser, 20, both of Selawik, left for Selawik Lake on a snowmobile at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, troopers said in a news release.

They were reported overdue at 6:20 p.m., troopers said.

Searchers found their snowmobile trailer abandoned near the mouth of the Selawik River but no sign of Snyder or Kaiser, the release said.

Troopers continued searching in the air and on the ground Monday, Nov. 14, but could not find them. The search effort continues, troopers said.

Selawik is a city of 800 people in the Northwest Arctic Borough of Alaska.
