Is it a bridge? Or a house? This residence for sale is making folks do a double take
A unique home on the market in Vermont is turning heads thanks to its design and has managed to set a popular real estate social media page ablaze.
The stunning two-bedroom, three-bathroom Stowe residence — which is listed for a whopping $17.5 million — appears to be an architectural portmanteau of both a home and a bridge.
“Deerwood (also known as the Bridge House) represents a rarity in large acreage offerings in Stowe and one that is truly one-of-a-kind,” the listing on Zillow.com says.
“The crowning feature is the timeless 4,800-plus square foot main residence, designed and constructed to echo the vintage covered bridges that dot the surrounding New England landscape but with a contemporary look and feel.
The main level, encased in glass, is one continuous open space. On each side, decks bounded by 12-foot-high fir trusses run the entire 140-foot length.”
While the outside is something to marvel, the interior has features that stand out on their own including:
Windows galore
Porch
Attached garage
Spiral staircase
Nature views
Floor-to-ceiling fireplace
Guest house
Caretaker’s apartment
The home caught the attention of Zillow Gone Wild, a Facebook page that showcases interesting houses on the real estate market all over the world.
“As quirky as it is, I love this except for the spiral staircase even if it is beautiful,” one person said.
“That’s an excessive number of bedrooms for that price. Too much potential for an overnight guest,” another joked.
“For $17.5 million, I’m going to need at least 3 bedrooms,” someone commented.
“But can you drive through it with a team of horses?” one person asked.
“Tell me this doesn’t look that the set up for a late 80s, early 90s sitcom based on a wellness retreat in Vermont,” another observed.
“From the outside it looks like someone decided their single-wide really wasn’t ever going anywhere and put a roof on it.,” someone joked. “The inside is incredible though.”
“With a bar and a deck like that, you automatically become a family that says, ‘we like company and hosting others,’” one person said. “Unfortunately I would prefer a house with a small bar and use the extra to build a moat, fill it with crocodiles and have a drawbridge.”
Stowe is about 125 miles southeast of Montreal, Canada.
