Whimsical retreat for sale in Tennessee is made from shipping containers. Take a look
A retreat with a unique build and brand has landed on the market in Sewanee, Tennessee, for $895,000 — and it’s a whimsical trip.
Welcome to Camp Cargo, a property that sits on five acres in the Cumberland Plateau region of the Volunteer State, and its originality comes from the fact that it’s built out of shipping containers, the listing on Reatlor.com says.
But not just any old shipping containers.
“As a real estate agent, you have to look for comps to price things and when you find zero comps in the area, you know you have something unique,” listing agent Keith Killebrew told Realtor.com. “This one is unique because it’s built with nine full-size shipping containers from around the world. They’re built to house goods and be watertight, so when you start with that and build a home out of them, it’s pretty unique.”
The listing says that the residence, built in 2020, has four bedrooms and four bathrooms — which all are in the main, guest, studio areas.
“The main house is A’HO, and that’s a Navajo greeting. The guest quarters are named The Whale Song. Hummingbird Hut is the smallest of these, and it’s the studio,” Killebrew said to Realtor.
Other features include:
Private decks
Large sleeping porches
Fire pit
Rooftop deck with party pavilion
The listing also includes that the camp is an “artist inspired dwelling” and a home “to artists, writers and academics.”
Sewanee is about 50 miles northwest of Chattanooga.
