A first responder was killed and another was critically injured when a semi-truck collided with their ambulance, Wyoming authorities said.

The first responders were attending to a two-vehicle crash, checking for possible injuries on Interstate 80 near Rawlins in the early morning Wednesday, Dec. 21, according to a Facebook post from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

“While first responders were on scene, a 2019 Freightliner semi-tractor with trailer struck two first responders and collided with the rear of an ambulance,” officials said.

Tyeler Harris, 29, of Saratoga, died from the crash, while the other first responder was critically injured, officials said.

The pair worked as emergency medical technicians with Memorial Hospital of Carbon County, according to a Facebook post from the hospital.

“MHCC is working closely with law enforcement surrounding details of the accident,” the hospital said. “With respect for the families involved, additional details are not being divulged at this time.”

Officials said “driver inattention is being investigated” as a possible cause of the collision.

Rawlins is about 120 miles southwest of Casper.
