Husband wins $2 million lottery prize — and SC couple isn’t ‘changing one thing’
A South Carolina man won a $2 million lottery prize — but he and his wife aren’t making drastic plans.
“We’re not changing one thing,” the winner said in a Feb. 13 news release. “We have a happy life. This just makes it more comfortable.”
The S.C. Education Lottery said the man celebrated the big win after he went to a store in Dillon, roughly 65 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach. While at the Savers store on U.S. Highway 301, officials said he spent $3 on a ticket for the Powerball game.
It turns out, his ticket beat odds of more than 1-in-11.6 million to win big in the Jan. 2 drawing. But the lucky ticket also was just one number away from scoring that night’s even larger jackpot amount, estimated at $265 million.
“I still remember the number I missed,” the winner told lottery officials. “I had ‘11’ and it was ‘22.’”
After the man learned he was getting richer, he called his wife from outside his workplace to tell her the news. The winner, who wasn’t identified in a news release, cashed in on his prize and kept $1.39 million after taxes, according to lottery spokesperson Holli Armstrong.
He’s not the only South Carolina lottery winner to decide to keep things consistent. In March, officials said a man basked in his six-figure prize before heading right back to his job.
