A Georgia officer was arrested and charged after a probationer accused him of sexual assault, state investigators said.

Bobby Evans, 47, an officer with the state’s Department of Community Supervision in Thomson, was arrested Feb. 24 on two counts of sexual assault of a probationer or parolee, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

He was also charged with violation of oath of office.

Evans turned himself in to authorities at the McDuffie County Jail but was released after posting a $10,000 bond, online records show.

Authorities first launched an investigation in July after one of his probationers made accusations against him, according to the GBI. Investigators found that Evans had “had sexual relations with the probationer on at least two different occasions.”

Additional information about the case wasn’t immediately available.

Department of Community Supervision officials said they suspended Evans after they learned of the accusations.

“Our Department acts swiftly and decisively to remove an officer from public safety duties when it is alleged that they have acted in a manner that negatively impacts the public safety mission of the Department,” a spokesperson told McClatchy News in a statement.

“Evans has since been terminated from employment with the Department of Community Supervision.”

Thomson is about 115 miles east of Atlanta.
