Mayhem ensues after trailer carrying 50 pigs crashes on highway, Minnesota cops say
Road hogs are everywhere. Actual hogs on the road, on the other hand, are a rare sight.
That’s what drivers on a Minnesota highway saw on June 9 after a trailer carrying 50 pigs rolled over outside of Minneapolis, according to a state police news release.
Following the crash, the animals were unleashed onto the freeway, where they wandered the pavement and obstructed morning traffic.
State police and local agencies responded to the scene and cautioned drivers to “find an alternative route.”
Officials then attempted to wrangle the animals, according to a news release from the Little Canada Fire Department.
Photos show nearly a dozen individuals using ladders, stretchers and other equipment to corral the pigs into a horse trailer.
The road was eventually cleared around 11 a.m., officials said.
Ten pigs died as a result of the crash, and no one was injured. The incident is still being investigated.
“This is a perfect example of how you can never say that ‘You’ve seen it all,’” officials said.
