Police cars shatter concrete wall inches from home during chase, California cops say
Two California Highway Patrol cars slammed into the same La Puente home while chasing a fleeing motorcyclist, authorities told news outlets.
“Really close call,” resident Nestor Rendon told KABC about the Saturday, June 10, crash at his home near Los Angeles.
CHP officers began chasing a motorcyclist on Highway 10 in West Covina at 4:40 p.m., officials told KNBC.
Two CHP patrol cars involved in the chase slammed into the front yard of a home at 4:52 p.m., KCAL reported. An uninvolved vehicle sheered off a fire hydrant.
“I just heard tires screeching and immediately what followed after the screeching was the cop car sirens,” Rendon told KTLA. “Then I heard a loud crash. I didn’t realize there were two highway patrol cars on my lawn.”
The driver of the vehicle that hit the fire hydrant was taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries, KABC said.
The CHP officers were not hurt, officials told KNBC. The motorcyclist was arrested nearby a short time later.
La Puente is a city of 37,000 people about 20 miles east of Los Angeles.
