Man chases stranger to stab him to death, WA police say. ‘Why are you doing this?’
A man chased a stranger with a knife before stabbing him to death at a Washington gas station, police said.
Witnesses first saw one man chasing another man after 3:30 a.m. July 4 in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, police said in a probable cause statement.
The 53-year-old stabbed Fontaine Jackson, 45, with a “large knife” until he fell to the ground at a 76 gas station parking lot, police said. He is then accused of continuing to stab him.
“Why are you doing this? I don’t even know you,” witnesses heard Jackson say as he was being stabbed, police said.
A witness pepper-sprayed the man in the face, and he stopped stabbing Jackson and ran off, police said.
Another witness followed the man, struck him with a rock and pointed to him when officers got to the scene, police said.
He was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder.
Jackson died at the scene, police said.
The man is accused of telling police that he continued to stab Jackson to “end his suffering.”
His bail has been set at $2 million.
