Man checking for intruder in backyard accidentally shoots himself, Texas cops say

A man was checking for a possible intruder in his backyard when he accidentally shot himself, according to Texas news reports.

Officers with the San Antonio Police Department were called to the home at about 3:55 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, WOAI reported.

The man told officers he went outside with his gun to investigate after he thought he heard someone in his yard, according to KENS5. He then accidentally shot himself in the leg.

The 58-year-old man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said in a statement to McClatchy News.

Charges have not been filed, KENS5 reported.
