A mother and her 5-year-old daughter died after being swept down a Connecticut river, according to police.

Kelly Dora, 39, and her daughter were at the Shetucket River near Sprague on Tuesday, July 18, when they became lost in the water, Connecticut State Police said in a news release.

After first responders arrived, they found Dora and her daughter in the river, police said.

Rescuers performed life-saving measures on the pair before they were taken to separate hospitals, police said.

Dora was pronounced dead at a hospital on July 18, according to police, while her daughter died at a children’s hospital the following day.

Police said they do not suspect foul play and that an investigation into their “untimely deaths” is ongoing.

Sprague is about 40 miles southeast of Hartford.
