DaiVion Henderson loved to play basketball and hang out with his friends.

He was doing just that on Tuesday, July 25, when a game of pickup basketball got him killed, according to Detroit news reports.

Some of the kids were upset they lost the game, his mom told WJBK, and the teens got into a fight.

The 14-year-old boy was stabbed in the neck, WXYZ reported.

Officers with the Detroit Police Department were called to the area at about 9:15 that night, according to a news release. Medics rushed the teen to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

“My son was stabbed to death over a basketball game,” his mother, Terronda Henderson, wrote on GoFundMe. “It hurts me to have to bury my child.”

A 13-year-old boy, of Detroit, has been charged with second-degree murder, police said. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Mike Cooksey owns the basketball hoop the teens were playing on, WXYZ reported. He said his daughter, along with kids from the neighborhood, often use the hoop.

“If I woulda knew a basketball rim out here would have got a kid stabbed it wouldn’t be out here,” Cooksey told the outlet. He added that he wasn’t home at the time of the killing.
