A “masked bandit” was left at the mercy of a Texas park ranger after getting trapped paw-first in a bird feeder, state wildlife officials say.

The raccoon can’t run and can’t hide its shame as it’s discovered in broad daylight, standing on the base of the feeder, arm reaching for the delicious seeds within.

“Raise your hand (or paw) if you’ve ever had your hand (or paw) stuck in a cookie jar!!!” Inks Lake State Park said in a Aug. 1 Facebook post, sharing a photo of the not-so-sneaky thief. “Mr. Raccoon here found himself in a lil’ predicament trying to sneak a quick and easy breakfast of bird seed!”

It’s almost too perfect. If raccoons were subject to the U.S. legal system, this is what a prosecutor might call “a slam dunk” case.

However, the court of public opinion is a different matter.

“This is too darn cute! Look at this little face!” one person commented.

“Poor baby, just trying to get him a snack,” said another.

“Food inspector just doing his job,” a comment read.

As far as the people are concerned, this raccoon is innocent of all charges.

With a little help, the critter’s hand was delicately pulled free, according to the park.

“He went along his way, only *slightly* embarrassed from the ordeal,” the post said. “Until next time, you masked bandit!”

Inks Lake State Park is roughly 70 miles northwest of downtown Austin.
