Trainee put a camera in hospital bathroom, Louisiana cops say. At least 10 were recorded
An accused “video voyeur” recorded dozens of videos of people in a bathroom at the medical center where he worked, Louisiana deputies say.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that it was called to Ochsner Medical Center, outside New Orleans, on Aug. 2 after an employee found a camera in the staff-only bathroom.
“The security staff was able to identify a possible suspect and turned both suspect and evidence over to our investigators,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The suspect turned out to be a 31-year-old resident trainee at the medical center, deputies said.
“We can confirm that a resident trainee has been arrested for allegedly unlawfully installing a recording device in an employee restroom at our Jefferson Highway campus,” said Dr. George Loss Jr., the medical director of Ochsner. “The individual has been terminated.”
A spokesperson for Ochsner added that security swept the campus and found no other recording devices.
The sheriff’s office said it clearly identified at least 10 individuals in the videos, so they charged the suspect with 10 counts of video voyeurism.
Deputies said they expect to file additional counts as the investigation continues.
“The safety of our patients, visitors and employees is our highest priority,” Loss said. “Ochsner Health does not and will not tolerate violations of privacy or illegal activity of any kind.”
Authorities estimate the investigation will take several weeks.
