One of nature’s most stunning phenomena is making for some dreamy wildlife encounters off the California coast, compelling video shows.

A wildlife photographer captured the “magical” moment a pod of dolphins swam through glowing bioluminescent waters in Newport Beach — and the otherworldly scene looks like something straight out of one of the “Avatar” movies.

“These common dolphin were chasing bait like crazy last night aboard @NewportCoastalAdventure on our first bioluminescence tour since 2020!” Mark Girardeau said in a Sept. 12 post on Instagram. “It definitely seems like they were taking advantage of the glowing fish.”

Video shows the electric blue outline of a dolphin as it hunts with a glowing neon wake trailing its tail and dorsal fin.

Part of the reason it’s so stunning to see is because blue is one of the rarest colors in nature, Girardeau explained in the post.

“Blue is the most difficult color for nature to produce, if this was any other color, would it still be as magical?” he said.

And it was even more vibrant and stunning in person, he said, adding that the footage doesn’t quite capture just how “incredible” it is to see. It was the first time the photographer had the camera equipment needed to film in “super low light situations,” he said.

“It’s something that MUST be seen by everyone who loves nature!” he said.

In the comments, someone shared that seeing bioluminescent dolphins was “one of the most amazing things” they’d ever seen.

“Neon Zoomy Bioluminescent dolphins! Doesn’t get better (than) that!” someone said.
