Woman threatens roommate with ax when she doesn’t pack fast enough, Florida cops say
A woman in Florida is accused of threatening her roommate with an ax when she felt the roommate wasn’t packing fast enough to leave the home, deputies said.
On Oct. 30, Andrea Maureen Cabrera, 52, told her roommate that their living situation wasn’t working out, even though the roommate had just moved in four or five days earlier, Marion County deputies said in an arrest report obtained by McClatchy News.
The roommate agreed to leave and asked a friend to come with her to pack up her belongings, according to the report.
As the woman was packing, Cabrera became “verbally abusive,” the roommate told deputies.
Then, Cabrera picked up an ax and told her roommate and her friend they had to pack faster, according to the report.
Cabrera told her roommate, “I’m gonna (expletive) you up,” and she swung the ax multiple times into the wall, deputies said.
The roommate told deputies Cabrera “bumped her shoulder into hers, and went into her bedroom continuing to verbally abuse them both,” according to the report.
The roommate’s friend went outside and continued to pack the car, but said he feared for his life, deputies said.
Cabrera told deputies she believed they could have packed faster and they weren’t working hard enough to get out of the home, according to the report.
Cabrera told them to, “Chop-chop” and “Hurry up,” leading to an argument, deputies said.
Cabrera told deputies she grabbed the ax “for protection” when the argument escalated, according to the report.
Cabrera was taken into custody on charges of assault with a deadly weapon without intention to kill and battery with a prior felony conviction, jail records show.
The home was in Citra, about 100 miles northwest of Orlando.
