Toddler left alone in warming SUV for a ‘moment’ is kidnapped by stranger, OR cops say
A toddler was left alone in a warming SUV in Oregon when a stranger got in the vehicle and drove off, police said.
The kidnapping happened at 7:21 a.m. Nov. 30, the Portland Police Bureau said in a news release.
A father left his 3-year-old daughter in a 2017 dark blue Subaru Outback for a “moment” so he could go back into the home, police said.
When he came back outside, a man wearing a beanie was stealing the vehicle, police said.
The father opened the vehicle’s door, yelled at the man and told him a child was inside, but the man drove off, police said.
Someone then spotted the child wandering down a street a short time later, police said. She was taken back to her family.
“We’re thankful that she wasn’t out of our sights for more than 10 or 15 minutes, that was the scariest 10 or 15 minutes obviously ever,” the child’s father, Will Stevens, told KPTV.
The SUV was found later that day, but police said they are still looking for the accused kidnapper.
