Abandoned dogs busted out window to survive. Two got homes — but Rex still needs one
A trio of abandoned dogs broke through an apartment window to survive — then two of them were adopted.
But the third dog — “sweet and loving” Rex — still needs a home, according to Stanly County Animal Protective Services in North Carolina.
“Rex has been failed so many times by humans and we don’t want to fail him,” the shelter wrote June 12 on Facebook.
Rex is ready for his next chapter after experiencing a rough patch. He and two other dogs were rescued in January after their owner moved from an apartment and left them behind, a shelter spokesperson told McClatchy News via email.
“We received calls from several neighbors that the 3 were roaming the neighborhood,” Animal Protective Services wrote. “There was a chair right outside the window of the bedroom. They had busted out the window and got out then were using the chair to go in and out of the apartment.”
All three dogs were rescued, and two eventually got new homes. Rex also was adopted briefly, but the situation didn’t work out. He returned to the shelter in March because the adopter didn’t get permission from the person who owned the home, according to a social media post.
Now, months later, Rex is still up for adoption. He’s known as a “high-energy, goofy boy who loves everyone.”
“Rex adores us and at mealtime is the most polite guy we have,” the shelter wrote. “When you get to him he is always sitting there quietly waiting his turn.”
Animal Protective Services hopes someone will take a chance on the pup, believed to be overlooked due to his black fur. An online adoption profile shows he’s roughly 1 year old, and McClatchy News is waiting for clarification on his breed.
More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at facebook.com/StanlyCountyAPS. The facility is in Albemarle, a roughly 40-mile drive northeast from Charlotte.
