Lottery player trying to nap is jolted awake with win in Virginia. ‘Doesn’t feel real’
A lottery player was trying to sleep when a jackpot win jolted her awake.
“She was preparing to take a quick nap and decided to unwind by playing some Virginia Lottery games online,” the Virginia Lottery wrote in an Oct. 3 news release. “But there was to be no nap that day.”
Instead, the woman basked in her $442,227 prize.
“I thought, ‘Am I awake? This isn’t real,’” winner Tina Evans told lottery officials. “It still doesn’t feel real yet!”
Evans, who is from the Richmond-area community of Mechanicsville, got richer when she took a day off to move. As she was taking a break, she tried her luck on the Robin Hood Riches game.
Evans hit the jackpot in the game, which costs 10 cents or more to play. Lottery officials in their news release didn’t share how much money she kept after taxes.
It’s not the first time a lottery player has bought a lucky ticket on their day off work. In North Carolina, a woman was off the clock when she played the lottery and celebrated an emotional win, McClatchy News reported in 2023.
