A lottery player turned $50 into a prize with many more zeroes at a Publix in Florida.

Hubert Wilkerson, 64, won a $1 million prize in the 500X The Cash scratch-off game, the Florida Lottery said Oct. 22.

Wilkerson bought his lucky ticket for $50 at a grocery store in The Villages, an age-restricted retirement community in north central Florida, according to lottery officials.

He missed the top prize of $25 million, but he still beat 1-in-274,004 odds to hit a big win of $1 million, according to the Florida Lottery. The Marion County man opted to receive his windfall as a one-time payout of $640,000 at the lottery’s headquarters in Tallahassee.

The Publix Super Market at Mulberry Grove Plaza Shopping Center received a $2,000 bonus for selling the ticket, officials said.

The Villages is about a 60-mile drive northwest from Orlando.
