The same numbers that won a Baltimore man a $50,000 lottery prize last year are still “lucky,” he discovered at a recent Christmas party.

Paul Cypress checked his tickets at the party after a reminder from his wife — and “realized he had struck gold once again,” the Maryland Lottery said in a Dec. 27 news release.

He won a second $50,000 lottery prize from the state’s Pick 5 game by playing the same numbers he used in 2023, lottery officials said.

Cypress kept quiet about his big win until he and his wife got home, according to officials. Then, they celebrated.

“His winning streak proves that lightning can indeed strike twice,” officials said.

Cypress plans to set aside some of his winnings for his children and their future, according to officials. He said he’ll save the rest.

Cypress said he “absolutely, most definitely (wants) to keep playing” the lottery.

As a seasoned Maryland lottery player, the Pick 5 game is Cypress’ favorite, according to officials, who said he’s been playing for more than 35 years.

It wasn’t specified how much Cypress will take home after taxes.

He bought his most recent winning ticket at a Shell gas station in Hanover, which is about a 10-mile drive southwest from Baltimore, officials said.

The station will get a $500 bonus.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
