Kitten with frostbite on ‘tiny’ paws is rescued from porch. Now there’s more good news
A kitten with frostbite on her “tiny” paws was rescued from the cold — then came more good news.
“Although she has a long road to recovery ahead, Jade is now thriving in her foster home with her finders, who have grown to love her and are excitedly planning to adopt her,” a New York animal shelter wrote Feb. 25 in a Facebook post.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Serving Erie County shared the heartwarming update after Jade was found in rough shape. The kitten, who had fleas and an infection, showed affection “despite her obvious pain and discomfort,” the shelter wrote on social media and in an email to McClatchy News.
“At just 6 weeks old, Jade was discovered on the front porch of a home on Niagara Street in Buffalo, desperately in need of care,” the shelter wrote. “Her tiny front feet had suffered severe frostbite, and it was clear she needed help.”
In early February, rescuers brought Jade to the SPCA, where she started receiving medical care. Over time, the 1.5-pound gray kitten made “remarkable strides” and settled into her foster home.
Then came the emotional news that Jade’s foster family is interested in adopting her. The kitten’s story resonated with people on Facebook, where it received more than 2,200 reactions within 24 hours.
“So happy you are on your road to recovery and your forever home,” one social media user commented.
“People who plan on temporarily fostering, then decide to adopt, often refer to themselves as ‘foster fails,’” chief communication officer Gina Lattuca wrote in the email. “Here at the SPCA, however, we’ve long referred to them as ‘foster wins!’ When foster parents decide they just can’t bear to part with their four-footed foster sweethearts, well, we consider that a win all the way around!”
