Endurance runner breaks leg on rugged mountain trail, California firefighters say
A helicopter rescued an endurance runner who broke a leg in a fall on a rugged mountain trail, California firefighters reported.
A video shows the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District helicopter hoisting the injured runner from the Razorback Ridge Trail near Truckee on Saturday, July 26, the agency said in a news release.
The man suffered a broken femur after falling on the remote trail, firefighters said.
The Grass Valley Emergency Communications Center requested the fire district’s help in airlifting the runner to safety, firefighters said.
After hoisting the runner, the helicopter flew to the Truckee Tahoe Airport, where he was transferred to an ambulance to be taken to a hospital, firefighters said.
Truckee is about a 100-mile drive northeast from Sacramento.
