House Republicans Vote to Extend Haitian Immigrant Protections: Full List
Six House Republicans voted Thursday to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians living in the United States, a move contrasting with the Trump administration’s efforts to end the 15-year status.
The group had pushed a Democrat-backed plan to extend the status through 2029 on Wednesday for 350,000 Haitians.
Don Bacon of Nebraska, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Mike Lawler of New York, María Elvira Salazar of Florida, Carlos Giménez of Florida, and Nicole Malliotakis of New York all backed the legislation.
Kevin Kiley, a California representative who recently left the Republican Party to become an independent, also voted yes.
The bill’s advancement comes amid legal battles for the Trump administration, which has been challenged on its decision to revoke TPS for Haitians, as well as multiple other nationalities.
