US Says Forces Shot Down 4 Iranian Drones Launched for Strait of Hormuz
The U.S. military has announced new strikes against Iran on Friday, after shooting down four Iranian one-way attack drones that were launched toward the Strait of Hormuz, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
In a post to X, CENTCOM said, “Moments ago, CENTCOM forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that were launched toward the Strait of Hormuz. The attack drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic.
“U.S. forces subsequently struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island to defend against further attacks. American forces remain vigilant and postured to respond to unjustified Iranian aggression in self-defense.”
The reported incident comes as President Donald Trump has recently put pressure on Iran to make a deal. Speaking to NBC News' Kristen Welker on Friday, the president said leaders in Iran have not agreed to a deal with the U.S. "They're strong, they're proud, there are things they never thought they'd be doing that they're going to have to do. They've got no choice, and it takes a little while," Trump said, according to the outlet.
The new action by U.S. forces follows ongoing back-and-forth strikes from the U.S. and Iran over the last week or so, including confirmation from CENTCOM on Tuesday that it had launched a Hellfire missile against the Botswana-flagged tanker Lexie sailing toward an Iranian port.
The U.S. added that it had also conducted “self-defense” strikes on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
