Pennsylvania Rep. Kerry Benninghoff quarantining after positive COVID-19 test

A leader of Pennsylvania’s House Republicans was diagnosed with COVID-19, a spokesperson wrote in a statement Monday.

House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff, R-Bellefonte, tested positive despite being fully vaccinated. He was tested after developing mild symptoms; his spokesperson was unable to confirm when Benninghoff was tested.

Benninghoff, 59, has quarantined since he was tested. He has not been in the Capitol since Nov. 18.

“I am thankful for the health care professionals who have helped me, and many others, through this process,” Benninghoff said in a statement. “I will continue to follow their advice and all COVID-19 protocols of the House Republican Caucus before ending my quarantine.”

Benninghoff is at least the third elected official who represents Centre County to test positive for the disease. U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard Township, and state Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman, R-Benner Township, also tested positive. Both were vaccinated.
