A longtime College Township council member who’s currently the council’s chair is resigning.

Carla Stilson, who has been on the council since 2013, informed the township and council in a May 30 letter that she is resigning. The council is set to accept Stilson’s resignation during its meeting Thursday, according to the agenda.

In her resignation letter, included in the agenda, she said she is resigning due to “personal reasons,” effective July 1. She plans to relinquish her position as chair at the end of Thursday’s meeting. She’ll attend Centre Region Council of Government committee meetings during the month of June.

“Thank you all for your professionalism, thoughtfulness, and dedication to democracy. I have been blessed over this past decade to be part of this truly positive organization that in its daily work marches toward the will of its community. It has been an honor and an education beyond compare,” Stilson wrote in her resignation letter.

Stilson’s term was set to end Dec. 31 and she was not seeking reelection.

“I look forward to engaging with local government in less official ways during this next season of my life,” she wrote.
