Planning to vote in person this November? Some voting precincts have changed

A record turnout is expected for the November general, which has local elections staff preparing for an influx of voters while making participation secure and accessible.

More than 26,000 Centre County voters are expected to skip the polls on Nov. 3 and vote by mail instead, but those casting their ballot in person should anticipate some changes this fall, including consolidated polling places and a potential satellite elections office.

The Centre County Board of Elections met Tuesday and approved the temporary relocation of six voting precincts. The changes were made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and statewide mitigation efforts.

Hope Fire Company, the State College Assembly of God and New Hope Lutheran Church will again serve as polling precincts in the November election, but some locations will differ from the primary.

Precinct 48 — Ferguson Township North 2 — has been moved from Elmcroft to the Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church at 851 Science Park Road in State College.

Precinct 24 and Precinct 22-2 have been moved from the HUB Robeson Center to the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park.

The BJC is also expected to be used as a satellite elections office. The Board of Elections is in the process of finalizing an agreement to lease the arena’s ticket center. If approved, the BJC would be staffed with election workers who would be available to process applications and allow for in-person and absentee or mail-in voting.

The satellite office would have copies of every ballot style available to be voted in each of Centre County’s precincts and have a secure ballot drop box to store completed mail-in ballots.

Voters will be notified by the county elections office if their precinct has changed.
