Centre County voters largely followed statewide trends in the 2022 PA primary. Here’s a look
Registered Democrats and Republicans in Centre County cast a total of 31,805 ballots in Pennsylvania’s general primary election Tuesday, and those votes largely followed statewide trends.
Centre County has 43,963 registered Democrats, 42,384 registered Republicans and 18,706 voters with no affiliation (who could not vote in Tuesday’s election), making up 105,053 total registered voters in Centre County. Republicans had the larger turnout in Centre County, with a total of 16,939 ballots cast. Democrats cast 14,866 total ballots.
Nearly 10,700 Centre County voters requested a mail-in ballot for the primary election.
Below is how Centre County voters supported candidates compared to the statewide trends. These results are unofficial as of Wednesday afternoon.
United States Senator
Democrat
Centre County Democrats cast 10,681 votes for John Fetterman, who won the primary election over Conor Lamb, who received 2,351 Centre County votes, and Malcolm Kenyatta, who received 1,099 votes. Alex Khalil received 440 votes and there were 79 write-ins.
Republican
There has not been a winner declared in the Republican U.S. Senate primary, as it’s too close to call between Mehmet Oz and Dave McCormick. Republicans in Centre County favored McCormick (5,217 votes) over Oz (4,702 votes), Kathy Barnette (4,187 votes), Jeff Bartos (1,170 votes), Carla Sands (1,053 votes), Sean Gale (128 votes) and George Bochetto (119 votes). There were 95 write-ins.
Governor
Democrat
Josh Shapiro, who ran unopposed, received 14,134 votes in Centre County. There were 195 write-ins.
Republican
Doug Mastriano won the Republican primary for governor and Centre County Republicans gave him more support than they gave other candidates. He received 7,915 votes. Lou Barletta had 2,922 votes, Bill McSwain had 2,504 votes, Dave White had 706 votes, Melissa Hart had 336 votes, Charlie Gerow had 250 votes, Nche Zama had 194 votes and Joe Gale had 89 votes. Despite dropping out of the race last week, Jake Corman garnered 1,798 votes in his home county. There were also 92 write-ins.
Lieutenant Governor
Democrat
Austin Davis, who also won the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor, garnered the most votes in Centre County, with 8,021. Brian Sims received 4,411 votes, Ray Sosa received 1,520 votes and there were 75 write-ins.
Republican
Carrie Lewis DelRosso won the Republican primary for lieutenant governor. In Centre County, she received the majority of votes at 4,544. Teddy Daniels received 2,446 votes, Jeff Coleman received 1,891 votes, Rick Saccone received 1,606 votes, James Earl Jones received 1,422 votes, Clarice Schillinger received 1,003 votes, Chris Frye also received 1,003 votes, Russ Diamond received 636 votes, John Brown received 553 votes and there were 95 write-ins.
Uncontested Races
Incumbent Rep. Glenn Thompson ran unopposed in the Republican primary for Congress and received 15,094 votes. There were 231 Republican write-ins. Democrats had 3,168 write-ins.
For representative in the 77th state House District, Democratic incumbent Scott Conklin (5,732 votes) and Republican Steve Yetsko (4,749 votes) will be on the November ballot.
Democrat Paul Takac (5,064 votes) and Justin Behrens (4,888 votes) will vie for the position in the newly created 82nd District in November.
In the 171st District, Republican incumbent Kerry Benninghoff (4,707 votes) and Democrat Robert Zeigler (2,582 votes) will face off in November.
